The purpose of Carers Northumberland befriending initiative is to support carers/former carers throughout Northumberland who may feel isolated, lonely, or have lost confidence. It aims to increase their feelings of confidence and wellbeing and to increase social interaction in the local community.
The carer meets a matched volunteer on a regular basis in a public place. They may have a cuppa and a chat, have a walk or may have a hobby they both enjoy.
Matching is not done on a first come served basis as we take time trying to ensure we find a befriender you will enjoy meeting. This isn’t always a fast process, and due to the geographical area of Northumberland it can be more time consuming, but we haven’t forgotten you and are working to get the right person for you. We cannot guarantee a match for you as this depends on an appropriate volunteer being available in your area.
Self-referrals, internal referrals and professional referrals are accepted.
