  • Make  breakfast (eg muesli) or other food the night before

  • “Float, don’t fight”

  • Learn as much as possible about your cared for’s condition

  • Remember the person you care for and outside circumstances may be unpredictable and you may need to change tactics

  • Use an alarm on your mobile phone or cooker as a reminder that medication is due.

  • If you put a towel in the bath first before filling up it can be easier to get someone out

  • Get your heavy shopping online or ask staff at the supermarket to help you get it to the car

  • Keep old prescription sheets so you know the names of the medication

  • Keep some spare medication and some water in the car in case you get held up in traffic

  • Keep a copy of everything! – all letters, papers etc

  • Keep a diary before filling in a benefit claim form

  • Use a calendar (or two!) for appointments etc
